How to Improve Samsung Galaxy S4 Battery Life

How to Improve Samsung Galaxy S4 Battery Life
The Samsung Galaxy S4
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is an amazing piece of technology but not very good on battery life. I realised this as soon as i started to use it after giving the battery a good charging.

With a battery size of 2,600mAh, one of the best in any mobile phone, you'd think that it would last a while. What you have to consider is that some of the new technology that these new gadgets carry more powerful and use more battery life when in use or not in use.

I had the issue of the battery draining really fast even when the phone was off. I then decided to make a few customisations on my new Samsung Galaxy S4 which would help improve the battery life.

Customisations Will Improve Battery Life

Tests on the Samsung Galaxy S4 suggested that the full charge will last up to 63 hours, which is a lot.

The customisations below will improve the battery life of the phone and you will see the difference instantly.

  • Change the brightness - By reducing the brightness of the screen should improve the battery life.
  • Change the background wallpaper - A darker wallpaper will save battery power compared to a brighter and more colourful screen as a brighter screen image uses more light.
  • Live Wallpaper - A live wallpaper is the one where images move in the wallpaper which drains the battery of the Samsung Galaxy S4 considerably. Try to use a still image instead. An animated wallpaper uses more battery life.
  • WiFi & Bluetooth - Deactivate the use of WiFi and Bluetooth when not in need of using it. If WiFi and Bluethooth is on in the background, the phone is still searching for connections.
  • GPS & NFC - If you're not using GPS or NFC then switch these off too. Basically if there is something you do not need then it can be switched off and you will save a considerable amount of battery life.
  • Under Charge/Over Charge - Do not under charge/over charge as this will hamper the battery life. If you do charge the battery then make sure you charge it fully up to 100% in one charge. If you do take the charger off, then do not put it back on again straight away. Give it at least another half an hour.
  • Use Power Saving Mode - The Power Saving Mode will conserve the life of the battery.
  • Exposure - Never expose your phone to extreme temperatures, hot or cold. This means to not put it directly in sunlight or leave it in your glove box on a freezing cold day.
  • Under the Pillow - I advise you not to put your Galaxy S4 under your pillow at night or any time. This is because if you haven't done any of the above, then you're phone and battery may heat up. Let it breath.
  • Do Not Use when on Charge - Try not to use your Samsung Galaxy S4 while it is on charge. I've noticed that the battery heats up and the battery doesn't charge up quick enough.

You would think that Samsung would recommend you to do all of the above and maybe more to preserve battery life, but they want you to use their product and all of it's features. This makes sense from their point of view, but sometimes you have to compromise and make a few tweaks to make things work in your advantage.

I hope this list of tips on how to improve Samsung Galaxy S4 battery life is helpful.

Enjoy using you Android smartphone, I can't get enough of it

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Review

Probably one of the most phenomenal phablets of all time! Samsung was not mistaken to release this one-of-a-kind, do-it-all technology. When the first Samsung Note was released, there were mixed reactions from people regarding its specs and what it can offer. Overtime, people were convinced that the Samsung Note did have a lot to offer. Then came the Samsung Galaxy Note II. There was a lot of hype before its release date and when people finally got to see for themselves what it was all about, it surely did not disappoint.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Review
By now, I would expect that people would have already accepted the size of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm weighing 180 grams) since it is pretty much comparable to its predecessor. The point of it being bigger in size is that it offers a different take on the usual smaller screen smartphones. The screen is perfect--5.5” is just the right size for a phablet that has multiple functions.

Not only is the screen size fantastic, its quality is to die for! No pixels, clearer and better color--what more could you ask for? Plus, what’s really awesome is that it runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is equipped with Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9! It also has Multi-Window Multi-tasking. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 allows the user to have 2 applications simultaneously running on the screen--Yes, you can actually watch Youtube uninterrupted while you have yahoo on the other half of your screen.

Another stand out is the Smart Stay. This is enabled when you want your screen to stay on as long as you’re looking at it (Yes, it can sense when you are doing so). Of course, it has the handy dandy GPS, wiFi and Bluetooth.

The camera takes amazing pictures with its 8-megapixel rear cam, auto-focus and LED flash as well as a respectable 1.9-megapixel front cam. With a bigger storage (16GB, 32GB or 64GB) available, you can definitely take as many pictures as you fancy.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Review

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Review
As for speakers, there is a very big difference from other smartphones. Gone are the times when you don’t hear your phone ring!

Battery life is unexpectedly incredible! With its 3100 mAh battery, you can expect upto 3 days under medium usage. Charging is not a hassle too-- it is much faster than other smartphones.

All in all, this is one smartphone which will be very difficult to resist since it practically has everything anyone would need their phone and mini-tablet to do.

Samsung's Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone

Samsung's Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone
The wait is finally over. The Samsung galaxy S4 was announced in a public event hosted by Samsung where they showed the world what they were sweating on in their studios. On paper, the specifications of the galaxy S4 blow its competitors out of the water. But,i s it powerful enough to cut down sales of the iphone? NO and here is how.

Processor

This beast packs the exynos 5 octa processor which houses two quad core processors with one housing in 1.6ghz and the other,1.2. While for casual browsing and making calls, the 1.2 ghz cortex A-7 processor does its duties without as much as a hiccup while the other one sleeps. When handling heavier applications and games like nova 3, the 1.6ghz cortex A-15 processor carries the load and the A-7 sleeps.

The iphone 5 packs in a dual core 1.2ghz processor which takes care of anything you could do with your phone while the specifications are sided with the s4. The iphone never experiences lag because both the hardware and software is made by Apple.

Screen

Galaxy S4- It has a gorgeous full HD super amoled 5.0" wonder, packing in a pixel density of 441 ppi. with its amazing colour saturation and brightness levels, it is practically impossible to see separate pixels with the naked eye. The new innovation from corning the gorilla glass 3, which can withstand much more pressure and is up to three times more scratch resistant than its predecessor, the gorilla glass 2 is being used for the first time in the samsung galaxy S4.the screen may be bulky for some users.

Iphone 5-the iphone 5 packs in a 640x1136 resolution with a pixel density of 326ppi.while the pixels per inch is lower than the screen on the s4,the colour saturation is much better and the screen appears more warmer.

Memory

S4 comes with 16/32/64 GB of inbuilt storage and is expandable to 64GB.this beast runs on 2Gb of ram, much like the note 2.

iPhone 5- The iphone 5 comes with 16/32/64Gb of inbuilt storage which depends on the choice of the user. Apple, like its earlier products do not provide the user with a micro sim card slot; it runs on 1 gb of ram.

Camera

galaxy s4-when it comes to phone camera, nokia makes the best of its kind.period.but in the samsung galaxy s4,is a 13MP autofocus camera with LED flash and a whole lot of other features.it can record full HD 1080p video at 30fps.it has a 2mp front facing camera which record video at full hd and is extremely useful when skype or video calling. iphone 5-the camera on the iphone 5 is an 8 mp autofocus camera with a LED flash.8 mp might be lesser than 13mp,but apple has showed us how much an 8mp camera can do,which captures excellent photos and videos much better than the samsung galaxy s4.it can record videos in full HD at 30fps.the secondary camera is 1.2mo and shoots video at 720p.

Operating System (OS)

galaxy s4-the galaxy s4 runs on android version 4.2,which is called jellybean.even though android is notorious for it customization skills,it comes poorly across as user friendly.the os,even though it can be played around with gets too complicated for the ordinary man which may cause problems in the future.the smart scroll feature and the new features announced for the new galaxy s4 is light years ahead of apple.
iphone 5-the iphone runs on the most advanced operating system in the world, the ios6.it is beautiful and gorgeous in the way in which it renders tasks without complaints.the hardware and software components, much like the other apple products, integrate seamlessly and provides a friendly user interface so that even if a person has never used the ios, they can just pick up the iphone and start playing around with it,no strings attached.the way in which you can use it will change your perspective how how phones should be used.not a living soul will go back to android or any other os after they get their hands on the ios.

Bottom Line

While the Samsung galaxy s4 may be a beast on paper for all the power it packs, the os,even though it has a lot of features which is ahead of many an iphone, gets complicated to use after a while and the better half of the users will not use these features. The iphone is a beauty which packs the perfect os for any user,be it a gamer or a businessman, they will find it entertaining.the hardware and software integration is so easy that you will feel using the phone is a breeze. The galaxy s4 packs many features into the nicely built body, but it is nowhere near an iphone killer.

How to Put On and Remove OtterBox Defender for Samsung Galaxy S3

How to Put On and Remove OtterBox Defender for Samsung Galaxy S3
Introduction
The OtterBox Defender offers two layers of protection for the Samsung Galaxy S3: a hard layer directly on the phone, and then a soft layer around that. The OtterBox Defender also has a built-in screen cover. However, all of this protection comes with a price, which is that figuring out how to put on and take apart the OtterBox Defender for the Samsung Galaxy S3 can be confusing, and you have to work through the process a few times to feel comfortable with it.

How to Put OtterBox Defender Case on Samsung Galaxy S3

  1. Lay your Samsung Galaxy S3 inside of the rear section of the hard plastic case. The rear section of the hard plastic case has padding on the inside to rest the back of your Samsung Galaxy S3 against. Another way you can differentiate the back of the hard plastic case from the front part of the hard plastic case is that the back of the hard plastic case has a plastic piece covering a hole for the camera. Additionally, the front part of the hard plastic case is covered by a large plastic piece, making it possible for you to see your Samsung Galaxy S3 screen after the OtterBox Defender case is applied.
  2. Place the hard plastic piece that covers the Samsung Galaxy S3's screen over the phone's screen so that the grooves along the bottom of the front cover fit into the matching grooves along the bottom edge of the rear section of the hard plastic case.
  3. Squeeze the interlocking pieces in the center of the left and right sides of the hard plastic case until you hear each individual piece click and lock into place. The hard plastic case should now be securely on the Samsung Galaxy S3.
  4. Slide the bottom part of the Samsung Galaxy S3 into the bottom part of the soft rubber shell part of the OtterBox Defender case.
  5. Carefully pull the top part of the soft rubber shell around the left, right and top edges of the Samsung Galaxy S3.
  6. Fit the rubber nubs on the outer edges of the shell into the grooves of the hard plastic case. There are grooves on the left, right and top sides of the hard plastic case. After this process is complete, the OtterBox Defender case has been successfully applied to your smartphone.

How to Remove OtterBox Defender Case for Samsung Galaxy S3

  1. Carefully pull the rubber nubs along the edges of the soft rubber shell out from the slots they're sitting in on the hard plastic case.
  2. Grab the upper edge of the soft rubber shell and carefully pull it up and away from the hard plastic case. Carefully remove the soft rubber shell from the hard plastic case.
  3. Position a finger under any one of the interlocking pieces along the edges of the hard plastic case and very gently pry upward until the two pieces are no longer locked together on that side. Work your way clockwise around the phone, repeating this process for the interlocking pieces until all of these pieces are no longer locked together.
  4. Slide the top part of the hard plastic case upward and then remove the top part of the hard plastic case from the Samsung Galaxy S3.
  5. Remove the Samsung Galaxy S3 from the rear part of the hard plastic case. The smartphone has been successfully removed from the OtterBox Defender case.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean AT&T & Verizon saga

Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean AT&T & Verizon saga
The Android Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 seems to be taking its time to reach Galaxy S3 owners, although T-Mobile USA has pushed out the Jelly Bean update to their Galaxy S3, whilst we reported yesterday that the Verizon Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update VRBLK1 has been released but the official version has still yet to come.

Those on T-Mobile can grab the Android Jelly Bean update over the air, or via Samsung Kies. Whilst the Jelly Bean update for the Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 was made available to owners back in October, which leaves the two top US carriers still waiting to deliver the official Jelly Bean update to the very popular Android device.

Originally the word was Verizon would deliver the official Android Jelly Bean update to their Samsung Galaxy S3 owners by the 16th of this month, which of course didn’t happen. The VRBLK1 build for Verizon is a leaked ROM that some have said could be the final version of the update, but hasn’t yet gained official approval. So it is possible Big Red will deliver the official update sometime soon.

Of course there are risks to using leaked ROMs, especially if you are not too sure what you are doing, so it might pay to skip that VRBLK1 build and continue waiting for Verizon to get their finger out and actually push out an official Jelly Bean update for your Galaxy S3, although just how long you might have to wait is anyone’s guess.

That leaves AT&T and their Galaxy S3 customers still waiting for the Android 4.1 update. Again we reported back at the beginning of this month that reports were saying the Android Jelly Bean update should arrive for AT&T Galaxy S3 owners by the following week, the second week of November. However, that failed to materialise, and AT&T users are still playing the waiting game.

Outside the USA, old Sammy has made the Jelly Bean update available in over 30 countries, although those customers gaining the update relies on just when their carrier pushes it out.

It does seem somewhat strange that the two top carriers in the United States still haven’t been able to deliver the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 update to their Samsung Galaxy S3 owners, and there is still no official word on just when that is likely to happen, which in turn is extremely annoying for those that own the device on those carriers to say the least.

Thus for both AT&T and Verizon customers it looks like you will have to continue the waiting game stage for some time yet, but hopefully both AT&T and Big Red will be able to deliver that Jelly Bean update before the year is out, perhaps as an early Christmas present.

Do any of our AT&T or Verizon Galaxy S3 owners think it’s about time their carrier stopped their heel dragging over delivering the Jelly Bean update? If so feel free to voice your opinion to our comments area below.

Apple, Samsung, Motorola Razr, Android Mobile Phone Discounts November 23, 2012

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

It's the king of Android pitted against Apple's mightiest iPhone yet. But there can be only one phone to rule them all – click on through to find out which is the victor...
Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 – fight

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been a long term favourite, but it always knew this day would come. Now that the dust has settled from the iPhone 5 launch, we can pit the King of Android against the mightiest iPhone yet. Let's see how they fare.

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 – design and build

The iPhone 5 has been given a stretch to accommodate its larger screen (more on that below), but counters that by reducing its thickness by some 18 percent to an After Eight-rivalling 7.6mm. It’s also 20 percent lighter at 112g. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is exactly a millimetre thicker than the iPhone 5 and weighs 21g more, although in its defence it should be said the screen is almost a diagonal inch larger.

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Looks-wise the iPhone 5 is similar to the 4 and 4S, but the all-glass back has been given a metal centre: on the black model it’s anodised aluminium; on the white it’s raw aluminium. Other changes? The dock is now the smaller Lightning, the headphone jack has moved from the top to the bottom and the speakers are larger (and better quality, according to Apple).

Obviously which of these is the better looking phone is wholly subjective, but personally we’d sway towards the iPhone 5 based on it's insanely solid and precise build quality, which surpasses any phone we've ever had the pleasure of fondling. That's not to say that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is ugly, but it's polycarbonate body just can't compete with premium anodised aluminium and glass materials.

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 – screen

The iPhone 5 has the biggest, best screen of any iPhone yet: 4-inch as opposed to 3.5-inch, still retaining the same 326 pixels-per-inch density and now with 44 percent better colour saturation. It’s also possessed of a more movie-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio.

The Samsung Galaxy S3’s 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen (also 16:9) looks wondrous indeed: bursting with deep contrast, vibrant colours and true blacks. The pixel density is slightly lower at around 306ppi, so if sheer sharpness is your goal the iPhone 5 has it beat. But overall we’re inclined to believe this one is simply too close to call – both are superb screens.

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 – OS and power

The iPhone 5 will ship with sparkling new iOS 6, which builds on previous, er, builds with improved Siri, FaceTime over 3G, Safari tab syncing over different devices and slicker Facebook integration. Google Maps has been tossed out in favour of Apple’s own map solution which offers super slick panning and zooming as well as a fancy new 3D building Flyover mode and turn-by-turn navigation.

The Galaxy S3 currently rocks Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which isn’t the newest version of the OS (Jelly Bean is expected to be available on the S3 soon), and has Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI laid over the top. Which OS you prefer is largely a matter of personal choice, but iOS is likely to benefit from its focus on a handful of devices (i.e. a lack of fragmentation) with smoother, less bug-addled performance.

The iPhone 5 sports an ARM A6 chip which keeps everything moving swiftly and smoothly (at least it did in our hands-on). The S3’s quad-core 1.4GHz processor is certainly no slouch, providing the slickest Android experience we’ve seen to date and rivalling iOS for stability. This could well prove a draw.

There’s no NFC on the iPhone 5, which is disappointing. The S3 certainly has one over on it there.

In terms of built-in storage, both phones offer 16GB, 32GB and 64GB options. But the Galaxy S3’s microSD slot means you can boost that by up to 64GB.

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 – camera

Both smartphones sport 8MP main cameras capable of 1080p video, and front cameras capable of 720p video. Both can take stills while shooting video.

The iPhone 5 features a new integrated panoramic shooting mode and what Apple claims is improved performance due to the sapphire crystal lens cover, improved image stabilisation and A6 CPU offering better photo processing.

The Galaxy S3 is a certified camera heavyweight, offering excellent quality, crisp detail and rich colours. This is destined to be another very close run thing, and we’ll only be able to call it when we’ve compared the two thoroughly.

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3 – initial verdict

It’s a close thing here, it really is. The Galaxy S3 is a fantastically powerful and well-equipped phone – the finest Android has to offer. While the iPhone 5 feels sturdier and more “premium” in your hand, there are other areas (NFC, storage, screen size) where many would gladly choose the Samsung, inferior build or no. In many areas, performance is likely to be extremely similar, or things will come down to personal preference. We’ll give you our full verdict on the iPhone 5 as soon as Apple sends us a review sample.

Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 Review

Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2

The MP3 player isn't dead yet, not if Samsung has anything to say about it. Splitting the difference between the Galaxy Player 3.6 and Galaxy Player 5, the new Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 improves upon both with better speakers and a brighter display. Like its older brothers, it gives you access to the full Google Play store for thousands of apps and can even be used as a handset when connected via Bluetooth. This Galaxy Player costs $199, the same as an iPod touch, but can it beat Apple's leading portable media player?

Design

Much like the Galaxy Player 3.6, the Galaxy Player 4.2 looks and feels just like a mid-range Android phone. Samsung's trademark plastic casing makes the Galaxy Player 4.2 much lighter than it looks, but the back picks up fingerprint smudges quickly. Like the iPod touch, there's only one physical button on the front of the device, but the Galaxy Player 4.2 also has two capacitive buttons flanking the main button, Home to the left and Back to the right.

At 4.89 x 2.6 x 0.35 inches, this Galaxy Player is larger and thicker than Apple's iPod touch (4.4 x 2.3 x 0.28 inches) but features a much larger display, dwarfing the touch's 3.5-inch screen. Weighing in at 4.2 ounces, the Galaxy Player 4.2 is understandably heavier than the smaller touch (3.6 ounces) and the Galaxy Player 3.6 (3.9 ounces).

As with the smaller Galaxy Player 3.6, there is a front-facing VGA camera above the screen and a 2-MP camera on the back. The power and volume control buttons sit on the right of the device and a microUSB and 3.5mm headphone jack line the bottom. The back of the device is easily removed to reveal a removable 1500mAh battery and a microSD slot.

The Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 definitely feels like a step up from the Galaxy Player 3.6, and it's not just because of the bigger screen. The dual front-facing speakers located on either side of the screen (when held in landscape mode) provide better sound quality. The large screen also makes the device feel less cramped, although far corners were a bit hard to touch when using the Player one-handed.

Display

The Galaxy Player has a 4.2-inch screen with a somewhat low 800 x 480 resolution, especially compared with Apple's iPod touch, which packs 960 x 640 pixels into its 3.5-inch Retina display. When viewed side-by-side with the iPod touch, the resolution difference was quite apparent. We weren't impressed when we watched the "Django Unchained" trailer on YouTube. It was difficult to distinguish finer details such as bushes and trees.

Despite these flaws, Galaxy Player 4.2 beat both the iPod touch and the Galaxy Player 3.6 in terms of screen brightness, measuring 497 lux. The touch came in second at 364 lux and the Player 3.6 was only 341 lux. You should have no problem using the Player 4.2 in direct sunlight. However, the iPod touch has wider viewing angles.

Audio

The Galaxy Player 4.2 two front-facing speakers pack a punch. When we turned up the volume and played Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven," Jimmy Page's haunting riffs filled a small office. The bass was also better than many other Android phones.

The music player included with the 4.2 provides numerous setting options and presets to customize the audio, thanks to the SoundAlive equalizer. There are 13 different preset options, and we particularly liked the Rock setting.

or radio lovers, the Galaxy Player also has a built-in FM tuner, a feature missing from Apple's iPod touch. The interface includes a fun radio dial as well as plenty of space for preset stations. Like most other Android FM tuners, you'll need to plug in headphones to get reception.

Software and Interface

Unfortunately, the Galaxy Player ships with an older version of Android, 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Although a decent operating system, we wish this device used the more current Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which makes it easier to multitask and create folders.

Like most of Samsung's phones, the Player 4.2 runs TouchWiz software on top of Android. The first of seven home screens displays a weather widget beneath a huge clock. When you pull down the notification shade, you'll see convenient shortcuts for toggling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Sound settings and Auto rotation.

The four shortcuts along the bottom of the screen take you to Music, Videos, Internet and Applications, and you can't customize them.

Performance

Just like the smaller Galaxy Player 3.6, the Galaxy Player 4.2 is powered by a 1-GHz Cortex A8 processor and 516MB of RAM. This is definitely on the lower end for Android devices. The Player 4.2 scored 1,719 on the CPU Benchmark test compared to the average score of 2,368. The 4.2 also scored quite low on the An3DBench 3D graphics test: 5,875 against the category average of 6,917.

Real-world performance was better but not blazing. While we played "FIFA 2012" without any glitches or performance issues, we noticed some sluggishness when scrolling websites (especially while they were still loading).

The Galaxy Player 4.2 includes 8GB of internal storage and can be increased by an additional 32GB with a microSD card, a must for this device.

Apps

The Galaxy Player 4.2 comes pre-loaded with a bunch of apps, such as Social Hub, AllShare, Kies Air and Smart View. The Standard Google app suite is also on board, including Google Maps, Gmail and the Play Store. The 4.2 also comes with a few popular games, including "Angry Birds," "Hot Pursuit" and "FIFA 2012."

The Social Hub application allows your device to receive push notifications from social media accounts, instant messages, email and SMS messages. Kies Air lets you view and back up your files from any Web browser.

We really enjoyed the AllShare app, which allowed us to wirelessly stream content from the Galaxy Player to any DLNA-enabled device. We connected the 4.2 to a 55-inch Samsung HDTV and were streaming video in seconds.

Along the same lines, Samsung's Smart View turns your Galaxy Player into a remote for your connected TV. It can change channels, access Internet-connected content, and serve as a gaming remote control. You can even turn your TV off with the app, but turning the TV back on will require the actual remote control.

The sheer size of some of the pre-loaded apps will necessitate the use of a microSD expansion card. "FIFA 2012" alone takes up 1.5GB of space, nearly 19 percent of the Player 4.2's 8GB of internal storage. The good news is that both "FIFA" and "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit" are optional downloads.

Samsung Mobile Link

Samsung's Mobile Link gives the Galaxy Player the ability to be used as a headset for Bluetooth 3.0-enabled phones, adding the capability to receive--but not make--calls. Samsung provides a few examples of times when this might prove useful, like if your smartphone is charging and you want to take a phone call or if you use a feature phone and want smartphone functionality on the cheap.

When paired via Bluetooth, the Galaxy Player will ring at the same time as the connected phone. Answering a call on the Galaxy Player is the same as any other Android Phone, and calls feel natural due to the placement of the speaker and microphone. As long as we remained within Bluetooth range--around 33 feet--everything worked as expected.

Camera and Camcorder

The rear-facing camera on the Galaxy Player 4.2 has a fairly low resolution of 2-MP. As such, photo quality was below what you'll find on most smartphones today. Pictures were slightly grainy and edges and objects weren't crisp and clear. Additionally, the 720p camcorder had trouble keeping up with moving objects, such as cars.

The 4.2 has a front-facing VGA camera that is decent for face-to-face video chatting, although facial features were a little blurry.

Battery Life

The Galaxy Player 4.2 scored high on the LAPTOP Battery Test, which consists of continuous Wi-Fi surfing with the screen at 40 percent brightness. The 1,500mAh removable battery lasted 7 hours and 56 minutes. The Android phone average is a lower 6:39, but that's over 3G and 4G, which uses more power than Wi-Fi.

Verdict

If you want a portable media player and gaming device in one with a big screen, the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 is a good buy at $199. Unlike the equally priced iPod touch, the 4.2 also has a removable battery and expandable media storage. We especially liked using the Player as a remote for our Samsung TV. We still prefer the iPod touch for its sharper screen, more premium design and superior app selection. But if you're looking for an Android-powered alternative with better sound, the Galaxy Player 4.2 is a worthy alternative.

Galaxy smart phones don't explode

Samsung has found the reason why there were reports that one of its Galaxy S IIIs caught fire.
It looks like the phone got a bit wet and the owner thought that he could dry it out by sticking it in the microwave.  What could possibly go wrong?

According to Reuters, the investigation by independent Fire Investigations had cleared the Samsung device and said it was not responsible for the cause of the fire, and that an "external energy source was responsible for generating the heat".

The Dublin user posted comments and photos on a website in June, saying his Galaxy phone had "exploded" while mounted on his car dashboard.

While he was driving, "suddenly a white flame, sparks and a bang came out of the phone," he said.
Samsung contacted FI-UK, an independent British provider of consultancy services into fires and explosions, to determine the cause of the fire.
It provided FI-UK with several Galaxy S III phones, including the burnt smart phone, for a series of tests.
The investigators found that the only way it was possible to produce damage similarly to the damage recorded within the owner's damaged device was to place the devices or component parts with a domestic microwave.

The investigation also showed that the unnamed user's latest comments posted on a web site, saying the phone had been recovered from water and the damage "occurred due to a large amount of external energy" which apparently was used to dry out the device.

Troubleshooting Samsung Galaxy S III Problems

Troubleshooting Samsung Galaxy S III Problems
Introduction
A number of potential problems can bring the powerful Samsung Galaxy S III back down to reality. Common problems include issues with the touch screen, battery problems, camera problems, various errors and more. Work to resolve your problem through troubleshooting before giving up and contact Samsung support or taking your phone in to a professional repair person.

Network / Service Error
Network errors will appear in areas where either you're not receiving a signal or where you're receiving a poor signal. If you receive a network signal, try moving to a different location to see if the problem is resolved. Sometimes other objects sending a cellular signal (eg, baby monitors, wireless routers, other cell phones and more) can interfere with your signal. Additionally, you may be in an area where your signal is blocked by buildings are trees, or interfered with by a large metal object that's nearby. If you receive a service error, try restarting your device to see if that resolves the problem. Your system may be suffering from a momentary glitch and not recognizing the function your trying to access appropriately. Alternatively, if the service you're trying to access requires a subscription through your cellular data provider, you may need to pay for the service you're trying to access.

Touch Screen Not Responding
A number of different things can affect the responsiveness of the touch screen on your Samsung Galaxy S III smart phone. Look into the following issues to resolve your problem:

  • Take off any protective cases or screen covers on your Samsung Galaxy X III. While these protective shells and screen covers protect your device, they can also occasionally affect your ability to interact with the touch screen.
  • Wipe away any water both on the smart phone and on your hands. Having water in either place can cause your device not to recognize your touch.
  • Reboot your Samsung Galaxy S III. If it works properly after the reboot, your issue was likely the result of a temporary software glitch. If you find yourself having to do this on a regular basis, consider restoring your smart phone to its factory settings to permanently remove bug that may be causing the problem.
  • Update the Samsung Galaxy S III's firmware.

Battery Problems
  • If the Samsung Galaxy S III is beeping, that's a sign that the battery is low and needs to be charged.
  • Remove the battery from the device and clean the gold battery connectors inside of the battery bay using a soft, dry cloth. Also, wipe any dirt or debris out of the rest of the bay and from the battery as well.
  • If you've had your smart phone for a while and the battery is having problems holding a charge and has gotten steadily worse over time, it's most likely that you need to replace the battery.

Camera Problems
  • The Samsung Galaxy S III will display an error message if you try launching the Camera app if the battery is too low. Try charging the smart phone's battery for a while and then try launching the Camera app.
  • You may be low on storage space on your smart phone. Try deleting apps or files you no longer use to free up space, or rather moving pictures and video that you rarely view to an external storage source.
  • Your Samsung Galaxy S III may be suffering from a glitch or bug. Try rebooting the device to resolve either of those temporary issues to see if the Camera app begins working properly.

Music Problems
  • Similar to the way that a lack of storage space on your computer can cause problems with the Camera app on your Samsung Galaxy S III, a lack of free space can also result in an error when you try opening music files. Try deleting unused apps or music files that you no longer listen to, or moving some of the pictures and videos off of your smart phone.
  • The audio file may be protected by Digital Rights Management and not capable of being played back on your smart phone. Try playing the audio file on another device to see if it works.
  • Your Samsung Galaxy S III may not support the type of audio file that you're trying to play back. The smart phone supports the following file types: MP3, 3GA, AAC, M4A and WMA.

Update Galaxy S III Firmware
Before taking the extreme measure to try resolving problems and restoring your device to its factory settings, try updating the smart phone's firmware by doing the following:

  1. Ensure you're connected to a Wi-Fi network and then tap "Settings."
  2. Select "About Device."
  3. Tap "Software Update." A message appears notifying you whether or not an update is available.
  4. Tap "Update" if an update is available. The process begins automatically.

Restore Galaxy S III Factory Settings
If your problems can't be resolved by traditional methods, back up your device and then do the following to restore the factory settings:

  1. Tap "Settings."
  2. Tap "Back Up and Reset."
  3. Select "Factory Data Reset."
  4. Tap "Reset Device."
  5. Tap "Erase Everything." The device will be restored to its original factory settings.
