How to Fix a Broken Screen on an 4GS
You will have to pay for the damage. Of course, Apple would perform quality repairs on your phone, but the charges are too high, up to $200 in some cases. As a result, those that suffer such damages opt to buy a new one instead and deem their iPhone totaled.

These are the factors that often confuse people when their iPhone screens are damaged. Some users simply discard the devices and wait for the new model instead of getting the existing one repaired. But if you want to get the screen replaced, you can always take your phone to an authorized Apple repair center.

There is, however, a third option as well. You can fix your iPhone 4GS screen on your own. Yes, this may sound intimidating, but it is not impossible. If you just get the right equipment and follow instructions thoroughly, you will fix it without having to spend hundreds of dollars.

In order to replace your broken screen, you need some equipment. There are a lot of DIY kits available in the market specially designed for repairing the iPhone 4GS. Be very careful when purchasing these kits since usually they are non-refundable.

Moreover, do not go for expensive kits under the impression that the cheaper ones maybe of a low quality. Once you have the kit, make a proper working space for yourself with the right amount of lighting.

Make sure that the surface you work on is flat and most importantly, clean. Lay your phone on the table, its back facing upwards. You will find 2 screws near the USB port. Use a # 00 Philips screwdriver to unscrew them.

With a pry tool, remove the screen. You can even use a thin knife blade for this purpose. The screen will be connected to some cables and you should be really careful while removing it. A great way to remove the screen without using force is to use suction cups.

You will also notice that the frame and screen are linked with some flaps that need to be lifted as well. Once you do so, 6 screws will become exposed. Once again, use the double zero screwdriver to unwind them.

Since in the LCD is sensitive, you will have to remove the assembly before removing and replacing the glass. Once the LCD is removed, start lifting the old screen. The remaining glass pieces can be removed, slowly, using tweezers or any other scraping tool.

Once the broken screen is completely removed, insert the new one with the same gentleness. Once the screen is firmly fixed, start screwing the phone in the exact same order as you opened it. Your iPhone 4GS should now be as good as new!
