| Reinstalling Google Chrome may solve problems with Windows 7 |
User Profile
A corrupted browser user profile may be to blame for problems with Google Chrome in Windows 7. Without Chrome open, click the Windows orb, "All Programs" and click the "Accessories" folder. Click "Run" to open the Run dialog box. Type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\" and then click the "OK" button. Click the "Default" folder and right-click to open a drop-down menu. Scroll down to "Rename" and rename the folder as "Backup default." Open Google Chrome again. A new default folder is created.
Wrench Options
The wrench icon in the Google Chrome browser window can help diagnose browser problems. Click the wrench and click "Options." Click "Basics" to make changes to basic settings. Click "Personal Stuff" to change password, auto-fill and theme settings. Click "Under the Hood" to look at advanced options. Click the "Content Settings" button to change information about how Google Chrome shows Web page content, including cookies, images JavaScript and plug-ins. Click the "Clear browser settings" button in the Privacy section to clear the browsing history. Check all the boxes in the Privacy section under Web Services. Close down Chrome and restart the browser to update the settings.
Malware
Malware, adware, spyware and other malicious software can interfere with how Google Chrome and Windows 7 interact. Open the anti-virus program installed on the computer and run a deep scan. A malware-specific program may also be installed on the computer to specifically remove malware, adware, spyware, Trojans and keyloggers. After the anti-virus or malware program has run, delete the suspicious files, if any, and restart the computer. If the problem persists, take the computer to a specialist.
Reinstall Chrome
As another solution to corruption problems with Google Chrome, reinstall the browser. Use a backup browser like Mozilla Firefox to access the Internet without Chrome. Click the Windows orb and click "Control Panel." Click "Uninstall a program" under Programs. Scroll down to "Google Chrome" and click to highlight it. Click "Uninstall" and follow the uninstallation instructions. After it's removed, restart the computer. Open Firefox and navigate to chrome.google.com. Click "Download Google Chrome" and "Accept and Install" to reinstall it. After installation, restart the computer and click "Chrome" to open it.
