Easter Apps: Best of iOS

Easter Apps: Best of iOS
Easter is upon us again, so if you're looking for something to keep you and your kids occupied while you try not to gorge yourself silly on chocolate eggs, here are some of the best new Easter-themed apps.

Easter Bunny Scanner

If you're having trouble keeping excitable children in line before Easter Sunday, Easter Bunny Scanner is an app that will remind your kids to behave.

It works by running a scan on the child using the "naughty or nice" meter -- a good child gets a green light and a nicely decorated egg, whereas a bad child gets a cracked egg. However, as the app's developers Spilling Coffee Media explain, while Santa Claus knows if you've been naughty, the Easter Bunny has no such powers.

"This Easter Bunny Scanner is for entertainment purposes only and provides no true Easter Bunny or behavioral detection or scanning ability," the app's description reads.

What really happens is that the scan defaults to the green light unless the parent wishes it to come up with a bad or random result. Whether it will actually keep your kids in line is hard to say -- we're not experts in child behavior, but for 99 cents it's a bit of fun. Spilling Coffee Media also offers a free version that carries advertising.

Easter Cards

Easter Cards by Vukee is an app for sending Easter greetings to loved ones.

Quite simply, it's a free app that helps you create unique Easter cards and funny pictures to send to your friends and family via email, or you post them on Twitter, Facebook, or Flickr.

Easter Expressions

Easter Expressions is a free Easter card-generating app. Simply pick your background and the objects -- eggs, flowers, bunnies, or other ornaments of spring -- that you'd like to put in your card, arrange them, and send the finished card to your friends and family via e-mail.

The developer, Muffinslabs, also markets an Easter Expressions HD Pro app for iPad, but it costs $1.99.

Easter Collage

This free iPad app will help you to hang on to memories of your Easter holiday by letting you create a collage from your photographs.

Developer Dirk Bost supplies plenty of templates to choose from to help you create the collage, and you can use the iPad's multitouch support to pinch, zoom, rotate, and move photos, as well as layer and create transparencies and add your own stylized text.

Easter Egg Design Generator

Another app from Spilling Coffee, the Easter Egg Design Generator is a free app that will give you and your kids inspiration for decorating your Easter eggs.

There are more than 30 egg colors, designs, and design colors to choose from, and you can even generate random designs. You will have to put up with the occasional advertisement, though.

Easter Egg Spin & Color

Easter Egg Spin & Color is another free app that lets you decorate an egg. You can decorate the egg in three dimensions as well, spinning the egg around as you go.

You can also scramble your egg into a slider puzzle to see how quickly you can put it back together again. The developer is Corina Bonanno.

Easter!

Easter! is an app by Onteca that gives you a countdown to Easter Day and also has an Easter Bunny Tracker, so you can see where the Easter Bunny has been busily leaving (but not laying) eggs.

There's even a blog written by the Easter Bunny telling you all about how the eggs were collected and where from. It'll cost you 99 cents.

Easter Bunny Coloring Book

Keep the kids occupied with this coloring book app that offers dozens of templates for your little artists.

While they're busily coloring, they probably won't notice if you swipe a chocolate egg or two. This app by HD Publishing is also priced at 99 cents.

Easter Fun For Kids

This app from TPK Studio offers six Easter-themed educational games and activities designed for entertaining and learning.

Tic Tac Toe and Hang Rabbit -- a bit like Hangman -- are among the activities on offer in this 99-cent app.

Easter Memory HD

This iPad-only memory game app from Fingersgames has four difficulty levels, making it ideal if you have several children of different ages to entertain. It costs 99 cents.

Easter with Bunny, Rabbit, and Me

Last but by no means least, Easter with Bunny, Rabbit, and Me is a free app that was created for Visuals Work by Lorrie Ann Harrington.

She designed the app to teach her son, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, new vocabulary, language-based concepts, and social communication skills.
