Doing this will deactivate the network lock on your HTC, allowing the phone to then accept any SIM card you put inside it.
Steps
- Turn the HTC Desire S on with a SIM card from the original network and type in *#06# - note this number that appears as it is the phones IMEI
- 2Next either contact your network and request the unlock code for your phone or find an online supplier to do it, which is often quicker, using a comparison site.
- 3Once you have your unlock code, switch the phone off and insert a non-accepted SIM card
- 4Then turn the phone back on again and during the phones load up, you will see the message "Enter SIM network unlock"
- 5This is where you enter your unlock code
- Once accepted the phone will be unlocked!

Make sure you find the IMEI by typing in *#06#
If the code is accepted but the network doesn't work still, ensure that your SIM card is activated and that you are running the original stock software on the phone
Warnings
Getting the IMEI by using any other method other than typing in *#06# may provide the wrong IMEI
Blocked phones will not work even if unlocked
